11:03 am - Pictures from Tallin, Estonia
It is an unfortunate fact that I got very few good pictures from Estonia. By the end of the working day it was already dark. I kept meaning to get up early and get pictures before going to work, but the extensive amounts of late night meetings, dinners and resultant drinking effectively ruled that out.
I did take hundreds of pictures, but most of them were far too blurry to bother keeping. You can see what is left here. Yeah, half of the pictures are of a nice Thai restaurant called Bangkok -- where a flash worked well enough to get pictures.

thedivinerpg is a brand new panfandom RPG with a twist you've never seen before. We just opened this November 1st and we are looking for a cast of characters from the Lost fandom to come join us for some otherworldly fun.
In the 14th century, Dante Alighieri gave the world a glimpse into Hell. But, like medieval Florence and everything around it, Hell has changed, and unlike Earth not necessarily for the better. However even across the span of centuries some things remain steadfast – the despair is tantamount, the torture ironic, pity is scarce, reprieve impossible – Abandon all hope ye who enter here. This is a literature and live-action panfandom RPG that takes character torture to a whole new level. If you have any questions or concerns feel free to comment to this entry or contact the mods at either madestatic@gmail.com or morbidly.gwenny@gmail.com. |

The stairs were littered with his dreams
Like leaves
Dancing and colliding
To the body mess at the bottom
Wearing his name tag.
The door upstairs closes,
and the air is full of his last moments.
09:50 pm - A Very Much Thank You to the Good People of Chicago!
I am now back in The Garcia Compound, dampened from the bath and happy to report that I'm exhausted and ecstatic.
First, to the ConComm: THANKYOUTHANKYOUTHANKYOUTHANKYOUTHANKYOU
THANKYOUTHANKYOUTHANKYOUTHANKYOUTHANKYOU
THANKYOUTHANKYOU
Not nearly enough thanks even there to tell you how amazing it was, how awesome you treated both me and Linda and how great I felt every second of the con. It was fantastic and I'm so very proud to say that I was a GoH at a convention that was so fantastic.
To the Fans of Chicago: Y'all rule! There were so many amazing costumes of all varieties (including amazing Steampunk stuff) and everyone was so nice. Sadly, I didn't catch her last name, but Andrea _______ may have just changed the face of West Coast parties and fanzine lounges with the Apple Pie Shot. It was amazing. I also have to say thanks to Steven Silver, Dave McCarty, Helen of Troy, Bill, That one guy, Neil Rest, RJ, That one girl with the chain-mail bikini, that other girl with the Dutchess costume who couldn't figure out if I was in costume or not, Anne Murphy, Chris Barkley, who is a great roommate, and everyone else we got to hang out with.
Also have to thank Phil and Kaija, James Blaylock, Chris Ready, and Tom Smith. I got a chance to chat with all of them, managed to break Kaija once while we were on stage and Tom Smith once (that's right, I broke him!) and had a great panel with James Blaylock. It was amazing to be in the company of such great GoHs. James is one of my favorite writers, Phil and Kaija my fave comicists, and Tom Smith is now my favorite HyperFilker! Just great company to be in with.
And of course, now I have to review it for SF/SF, Exhibition Hall, The Drink Tank, Claims Department and so much more!
And by the way, in the words of Frank Wu, I love you all!
Chris

So, I recently decided that I'd like to expand my friends list a bit. I guess an introduction would be a good place to start. :)
I'm Cynthia, 27, living in Richmond, VA. I work at an animal rescue as the Volunteer Coordinator. There is never a dull moment--animal activists are some interesting people. I'd like to add people who are interested in actually developing a friendship. That means you atleast occasionally read my journal and comment. You can expect the same from me. I'd prefer friends 21 and up, please.
A small note I will add: my brother was killed in March of this year unexpectedly. I don't go all emo and talk about how I want to cry myself to sleep every night but I do talk about my grief journey and what I'm feeling quite a bit.
Some things I like:
*writing
*books
*reality tv
*animals
*music (ALL kinds)
*sports
*traveling
*community service/volunteering
*cracking my knuckles
*sleeping
Some things I don't like:
*pushy religious people
*bigots
*guns
*rodents of any type
*drama
*war
If you'd like, please feel free to add me, just let me know you are doing so. If you decide it's not working out after a while, feel free to remove me. No hard feelings.
I hope to meet some great people through this. Thanks for reading. :)
12:23 pm - Getting back in to the swing of things and wants some friends!
I like some never know what to write here so here it goes: I’ve been a member for Live Journal for awhile but sometimes I never really get on here and write how I feel(thats about to change). In fact its been a year since but its never fun to get on here and write and never get feedback or just some random person to say HEY I get you. I figured its time to try again. So here it goes. I just celebrated my 29th birthday and I am married with one son. I love to read, write, sing, play music, games, sports, surf the web, Sadly I am guilty of being addicted to FaceBook. Some days I don’t know when to shut up others I don’t say anything at all. I have a lot of on my mind and I just need to lay it out. My brother’s cancer has relapsed so I am being the best support system I can since he lives in Texas (which I am from) and I live here in Colorado. Anyway I think that’s enough for now I really like to write way more but don’t want to scare anyone away. I think this evening I’ll post for the first time all about me entry so you can know more. Hope to talk at more of you soon!

I am a pretty simple person. I work (full time, Medical Field, Administration end of things I hate it sometimes), I go home, I do some shopping here and there, go out to eat once in a while. Life is sometimes exciting. I have a boyfriend with serious medical issues (Diverticulitis), and I have some of my own(Crohn's Disease, Asthma, Diabetes, PCOS and Arthritis-that all sounds much worse than it is, really). I also should mention I have general anxiety disorder and depression, I try not to let it get to me. I have cats. I wish I could have a small dog, but we don't have the room. I have had several miscarriages and I don't know if I will be trying again. I am not generally religious, God doesn't seem to speak to me. I don't do drugs at all, and I have a drink once in awhile and I never finish so I just don't bother with them. However, I can't pass up a good smoothie and I love Thai and sometimes Sushi (but Sushi doesn't love me, ain't that always the way?). I have an uneasy relationship with Tuna. I enjoy reading (I just fell in love with Sookie Stackhouse), creative writing (when I have the inspiration), television (some shows, I find though that I am bored with some of my favorites now), video games (titles and platforms vary) and movies (I love scary/suspenseful movies the most but I watch everything from Pixar to action movies, Sci-Fi, you name it). I don't think I fit into anyone one group: I am a little geeky, not really nerdy, etc. I am just me. I am not into politics at all, I think it's a personal thing.
I really hate drama. I am not fond of people who seem to feed on it. I have enough stuff to deal with IRL, I don't need online stress. Like everyone, I have my opinions, and I don't expect anyone to agree with everything I say. Just like I wont agree with everything you say. While I welcome comments, and maybe some friendly debate, I wont tolerate being flamed or anything like that. Flaming someone isn't going to get anyone to change their mind, so it seems pretty pointless.
I don't have rules or expectations for who I want to be friends with on here. I do ask you be over twenty-one, or a least a very mature eighteen.
Commenting is important to me, I like using LJ because it's a social site. I don't know if you read me unless you comment once in awhile. I don't expect comments on every entry, but if you aren't one to comment, don't add me please. Unless you are super interesting, then I wont care lol. Also, I don't have a twitter, so no twitter updates. I don't mind if you do, as long as you make regular posts also. If it's just a twitter respository, I wont be interested. I don't like twitter. I don't mind quizzes, sometimes I'll post them if they are interesting, this is rare as they are usually way off.
If you're still reading, and would like to add me, please comment here. Or send me a private message through my profile.
Thank you!
06:54 pm - honor and dignity in the american soul
In his account of “the stark, enduring figure” of James Fenimore Cooper’s Deerslayer in his 1923 Studies in Classic American Literature, D.H. Lawrence observes:
He is neither spiritual nor sensual. He is a moralizer, but he always tries to moralize from actual experience, not from theory. He says: ‘Hurt nothing unless you’re forced to.’ Yet he gets his deepest thrill of gratification, perhaps, when he puts a bullet through the heart of a beautiful buck, as it stoops to drink at the lake. Or when he brings the invisible bird fluttering down in death, out of the high blue. ‘Hurt nothing unless you’re forced to.’ And yet he lives by death, by killing the wild things of the air and earth.A recent treatment of the essential American soul in an article by Jill Lepore in the New Yorker discusses murder in America within the conceptual framework of honor and dignity, in reference to work by the late Eric Monkkonen and the ongoing Pieter Spierenburg. ( Read more... )
It’s not good enough.
But you have there the myth of the essential white America. All the other stuff, the love, the democracy, the floundering into lust, is a sort of by-play. The essential American soul is hard, isolate, stoic, and a killer. It has never yet melted.

06:14 pm - Stuff!
I just added 15 new songs to the collection, because I've been feeling unproductive.
Or something.
Anyway, the new track count is 14,936, and the new unique song count is 11,077.
The songs page is, as always, up-to-date, and the new update sheets are printing.
